We hope all of you are having a good week! We have some exciting news to share…

Little Curlew Press has launched a crowdfunding page to raise funds for the production and promotion of our forthecoming publication Steelies and Other Endangered Species!

Why we’re doing crowdfunding: For awhile now, we’ve been observing crowdfunding pages. We think they’re such a fun idea! We like the excitement it generates for a project. We also like that it gives people a chance to be a part of the special projects that they like. We’ve been dreaming up crowdfunding possibilities for Little Curlew Press for awhile now, but when we decided to publish Steelies, we knew it would be a great crowdfunding cause.

Why we chose Tugboat Yards: Initially, we were thinking of using either Kickstarter or Indiegogo. We came up with some offer ideas and even made arrangements for a Steelies book trailer to use when a representative of a company named Tugboat Yards contacted us. Tugboat Yards is a startup based in San Francisco that caters to media production companies. After many emails, a skype call, and discussion and debate amongst ourselves, we decided Tugboat Yards was the right platform for us.

Some determining factors were, one, Tugboat Yards does not take a percentage of funds raised, unlike traditional crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indigogo. This was a big one. And it could of course change, but for now it works great for us as a new independent press. Two, Tugboat allows us to increase the limit of the individual offers. So if we notice that some offers seem to be more popular than others, we can add more. We also can completely change our offers and add new ones. Is there an offer that you would like to see? Let us know! We’ll consider adding it in. Three, our Tugboat Page will never come down. It will always be a way for our readers and fans to support us. Right now, all of the funds raised through our Tugboat page will go directly to Steelies. When we reach our goal, we can change our page to be just for Little Curlew Press or for our next book if we’re ready to publish another.

Now you may be asking, “what’s your goal?” Although we don’t have to post a goal on our Tugboat page, we do have an idea of what we will need for what we want to do with Steelies. We’re hoping to raise at least $1,500. We have so many ideas for the design and promotion of Steelies. How much money we raise through the crowdfunding for this book will determine how many of these things we can actually do.

Now that you know what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, check it out! Let us know what you think, and feel free to support Steelies if you’d like. If you can’t donate, please pass the word around. We really appreciate all of you who choose to support our first book!
